Me - Designed to support teenagers with Chronic conditions as they transition into adulthood.Inspired by my own health journey into adulthood.
The Me project explores the connection between self-expression, taking charge, and empowerment. In the form of a physical product aimed at redefining the functionalities of a common medical ID bracelet. It aims to remove the narrative of vulnerability and instead position health ownership as an act of identity, and self-expression. So often, we see medical resources aimed at older or younger demographics. Missing the transitional point that can usually be the most difficult.
The development of Me followed a human-centred design approach, guided by ongoing insights from user interviews, surveys, and overall research. These interviews highlighted the gap that teens face when moving through adulthood. Me challenges this and takes form in wearable pendants, designed to enable full personalisation while discreetly storing vital medical information. The aim for Me is that users are entitled to wear their pendant in more ways than one. Embracing the unique and customisation aspect that teens often look for. Erasing the barriers and making the pods ultimately theirs. Each pod connects to a digital profile accessible through mobile scan, allowing first responders to instantly view their vital health information when they need it the most. This project isn't just a redesign of the medical ID, but it reframes it from a symbol of illness to a symbol of empowerment and identity that teens will like to wear.
